Once again the tone wizards at Earthquaker Devices in Akron Ohio have struck sonic gold with their latest fuzz pedal, the Hizumitas Fuzz Sustainar. In collaboration with guitarist Wata from the experimental metal band Boris, this pedal is EQD’s recreation of the iconic “Big Mud” Sustainar fuzz from Elk pedals. This tone has a heavy presence in Boris’ overall sound and this recreation takes this tone and gives it more contour and dynamic using circuit schematics from the original version as well as other popular recreations. Although the Hisumitas was built on the replication of another popular design, this recreation stands on its own offering much more versatility and overall tone.
