Gretsch Guitars and The Arts Music Store

“That Great Gretsch Sound” has long been available to customers at The Arts Music Store as the Gretsch company’s name has long been synonymous with excellent dynamic-sounding guitars, basses and drums. The roots of the family-operated company can be traced back to 1883 when a German immigrant named Friedrich Gretsch settled in Brooklyn, New York and christened his new music shop. Along with guitars, Friedrich manufactured drums, tambourines, ukuleles, mandolins and banjos and became well known for his commitment to quality and excellent craftsmanship. If we fast forward to 2019 we find the Gretsch name is still regarded with the same respect and revered the same way it was back then as the company now serves its clients from its headquarters in Savannah, Georgia .

  • Gretsch guitars are famous for their creative custom colours along with their fantastic tone, vibe and style.
  • The company’s legendary acoustic guitars are crafted from select materials and woods such as spruce, maple, rosewood and mahogany to create the classic and distinctive Gretsch sound.
  • The hollow body guitars are well known for delivering deep resonance and rich fullness for a big-body sound which features acoustic nuance and splendid clarity.
  • Because of the Filtertron pickups, Gretsch guitars provide a unique crunchy, crispy-sounding mid-range to their tones.

Throughout the company’s storied history, Gretsch has always pioneered new and exciting designs and incomparable world-class manufacturing techniques. The early guitars were primarily designed for country and western and jazz musicians, but rock, blues and rockabilly artists could soon be seen playing them. In 2002 Gretsch joined forces with Fender as the latter took over manufacturing and distribution of the guitars. Musicians will find a wide range of instruments are available in a variety of styles, designs, colours and sizes.

Gretsch has been the instrument of choice for several musical revolutionaries because of the full, rich sound produced along with the classic visual style and smooth playability. Gretsch and great music will always be inseparable partners. Numerous big name musicians of the past and present have played Gretsch guitars to the delight of their fans over the years including Eddie Cochran, Bo Diddley, George Harrison, Bono, Billy Duffy, Malcolm Young, Chet Atkins, Duane Eddy, Brian Setzer, Tom Petersson, Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Billy Gibbons, Nick 13, Jason Spooner, Lara Hope, and the Monkees.

“I recently bought an acoustic guitar from The Arts. Plenty of quality selection there. Arron and the other guys who work there are great to deal with. Put up with me coming in 2-3 times a week for a couple months to try everything on the wall until i found the perfect instrument for me in my price range. Great experience. Will be back when i’m ready to upgrade.”

“Nothing short of great! Extremely knowledgeable staff that go out of their way to accommodate their clientele. Customers derive benefit of the staffs in depth knowledge based on their experience as working musicians. Their experience, integrity, and in-depth knowledge of the industry means that you will get decent products to suit your own personal music needs, at fair prices and excellent service after they have made the sale. If these guys don’t truly love what they do, then they are brilliant actors! Have dealt with them for over 25 years and will continue to do so!
All the best to Archy and the gang!”

“My son and I have taken up guitar this year and we have visited a few of the popular music shops in the GTA in search of the right gear to get started with. The Arts staff have consistently provided us with exceptional service and a ton of great advice without the pushy sales approach of some of the other shops.
Great service and fantastic products!”
